At the recent Port80 web conference in Newport, I gave a talk on dealing with clients & pricing (slides here). This is a subject close to my heart as, like a lot of freelancers and folks running web/creative agencies, I’ve made many mistakes in the early days and have had to learn the hard way when things go wrong. And when things go wrong with pricing you end up doing a lot more work than you bargain for. Continue reading

Putting on a Web Conference in 115 days
Back in Jan I decided that there should be a web design conference in South Wales and last week (on the 25th of May) that’s exactly what happened here in Newport with an event called Port80.
Port80 Update
The Port80 web conference in Newport, whose concept I launched just over 100 days ago, is here in only a day’s time. And fully sold out. Wow! How did that happen?!
New Event: Websites – A Workshop for Business
Shortly I’ll be adding a new workshop to the website but I wanted to get some rough thoughts out there first to whet your appetite. This workshop will be an ideal tonic for busy business owners struggling to be friends with their website: Below is some of the info for the event that I’m working on for the website. Please get on in touch if you want to be one of the first to know when the initial workshop date is scheduled.
Newport Web Design Talk (now port80!)
I’ve decided that Newport needs a bit of web tech chin wag, therefore I’ve drawn a line in the sand and am saying the following:

Torfaen Internet Strategy Seminar
I had a great time presenting at the Internet Strategy event organised by Torfaen Council yesterday. It was held at Greedmeadow Community Farm (my kids love it there) and the sounds of the occasional cow in the background was an interesting chorus to the topics of websites, Google Analytics and social media
Whilst it was a longish day (half day sessions are probably better) everyone seemed to get a lot out of it and stayed awake to the end.
Thanks to everyone who attended and to James Turner from Torfaen Council for organising.
